CAM is short for complementary alternative medicine. It can be best described in two parts complementary medicine is where you add to your present health care from a doctor by enlisting other remedies to help in your care. Some examples would be for pain someone might be told by a doctor to take warm baths, soak with Epsom salts, use irrigations or heating pads. This kind of complementary addition can elevate pain so you don’t rely on medication so heavily. Using relaxation techniques, stretching and massage are other examples of complementary medicine.
Alternative medicine however is where someone tries to replace conventional therapy with an alternative one such as changing ones diet to elevate diabetes before going on conventional medications. Some cancer patients have been known to fore-go chemotherapy and radiation recommended by conventional doctors, for extreme alternative methods and special dietary changes.
Integrated medicine is the combination of complementary and alternative medicines with conventional medicine to provide a complete and safer form of health care. More conventional doctors are taking an active role in giving patients choices of treatment plans for diseases and illness these days. I have seen a more tolerable role in conventional medicine for special dietary plans and restrictions, the use of relaxation techniques and biofeedback, massage and water therapies, not to mention vitamin and herbal additives to medication lists.

Many Americans are learning of the importance that minerals play in preventing and curing disease. Unfortunately, just as many have been left disappointed when they experienced the unpleasant effects often observed when they took any form of minerals including colloidal ones and/or trace minerals.

Taliban moving in on Kandahar, AfghanistanThe Taliban may dominate, once again, the Afghan city of Kandahar. Fighting against the Taliban will pose a difficult task for Afghan officials after devastating attacks against the city have left the people fearful and in poor spirits. United States and Canadian troops capabilities
are overstretched and it is damaging any possibility for progress in the war. Kandahar, which was the Taliban headquarters prior to United States invasion, seems to be coming under the Taliban stronghold. Controlling the city streets after dark and attacking civilian populated areas, all residents feel unnerved and concerned about their safety. Increased numbers of United States troops in Afghanistan will take place this year, with 21,000 troops intended to take on the Taliban. Until now, the United States course of action in Afghanistan emphasized troop presence in the country side. Focusing on the city of Kandahar and the nearby areas that once served as Taliban stomping ground will be vital to making a strong stand against Taliban militants.Auschwitz Blueprints Handed Over to IsraelIsraeli leader, Benjamin Netanyahu encourages anyone who believes that the Holocaust is a myth to visit Israel to see the blueprints of the Nazi death camp. The documents, verified by the German federal archive, were discovered in an East Berlin apartment and passed on to Bild newspaper. Kai Kiekmann, Bild editor, later gave the documents to the state of Israel. His intention was to allow as many eyes as possible to see the blueprints. Netanyahu compared the tragedy of the Holocaust to the current Middle East conflict, contending that the anti-Jewish state and anti-Jewish people expressions are similar to that of the Nazi barbarians. Iranian President Ahmadinejad has been very outspoken against the state of Israel and calls for the destruction of the state and the Jewish people.Eighty-Eight Troops Killed in Afghanistan in July and August

A Great Monitor for a Low PriceI was at Circuit City the other day, drooling over their widescreen monitors, and spotted the I-inc 25″ Widescreen LCD Monitor. I have not seen a computer monitor that big before, and was flabbergasted. My main TV right now is a 27 inch standard television.
(It is a on HD, non flat screen TV – you get the idea)The I-inc 25″ Widescreen LCD Monitor has an LCD/TFT full HD (1080p) screen. This is the monitor for serious media viewing.I checked out its key features and found that the I-inc 25″ Widescreen LCD Monitor has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. You can really get some real estate on this monitor. I got the guys at Circuit City to let me play with the monitor a bit. I wanted to put it through its paces. I asked them to put in a video game with a lot of action. They put in the Terminator Salvation game, and let me tell you it rocks on this screen. There is virtually no video blur or stutter on the I-inc 25″ Widescreen LCD Monitor. The picture resolution has great sharpness, and the contrast is crisp and clear.I listened to the audio on the I-inc 25″ Widescreen LCD Monitor, and as with most built in speakers on monitors, it was so-so.The color on the I-inc 25″ Widescreen LCD Monitor is spot on. Flesh tones looked normal, and blacks are very black.I played a DVD form the Sci-Fi Series “Battlestar Galactica on the I-inc 25″ Widescreen LCD Monitor I chose this particular DVD because having watched the show, I knew there was plenty of action sequences and space shots to give the monitor a real test.I was impressed watching the space battle scenes. They looked perfect on the I-inc 25″ Widescreen LCD Monitor. Some televisions I have watched tend to blur during action scenes. The I-inc 25″ Widescreen LCD Monitor will also function as a television monitor. All you have to do is plug it in with an HDMI or DVI cable to your satellite or cable box, select video mode and away you go. A 25 inch HDTV for under 200 bucks. The price for the I-inc 25″ Widescreen LCD Monitor is a rather inexpensive $189.99 at Circuit City. Frankly I would have expected to pay closer to $300.00 for a monitor of this size and resolution.

Four Generations Have Loved This Apple CobblerAn apple cobbler just out of the oven served with a dip of vanilla ice cream and a hot cup of apple cider remind me of fall evenings long ago. My grandmother had this round blue baking dish that she always used to bake the cobbler in the oven of her old green cook stove. My cider came
in a little green cup and saucer. The old cook stove also warmed the kitchen and she’d put my pajamas on the oven door to warm them. I would be so cozy when I climbed into her plump featherbed. That old blue baking dish now bakes my apple cobbler, but I am fortunate that I don’t have to haul in cobs and wood for that old green cook stove. [This dish is a 9 inch round.] You could use a square eight or nine inch pan and it will work well. Some people like mushy apple cobbler and some like it made with more firm apples. Ask your grocer if you don’t know which apples to purchase. I use about 8 larger, some-what tart apples that become soft when cooked.Peel and slice 8 large apples – or enough to fill 1/2 to 3/4 the height of your dish or pan.Sweeten the apples with sugar and cinnamon to taste. [I would say from 1/2 to 1 cup of sugar and about 2 tablespoons of cinnamon.] Tart apples require more sugar and it also depends upon your taste. We love cinnamon, so I often shake out a few extra sprinkles.Mix together top crust.3/4 cup of brown sugar3/4 cup quick oatmeal1/8 tsp. salt1/8 tsp. baking soda1/8 tsp. baking powder1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened [so mixes easily]Add 1 tablespoon of water and mix thoroughly.Spread over top of apples. Sometimes I just use my hands to be sure entire top is covered.Bake in 350 degree oven for one hour. Top will be crispy.Serve with ice cream.Note: This also works well with peaches. Enhance Your Working Environment Through Feng ShuiFeng shui is the ancient Chinese art of creating harmony and attracting luck by working with the environment. This is one of a number of articles that look into how you might bring peace, happiness and harmony into your home through feng shui. This article focuses on the workplace.Feng shui is all about the environment around us and that includes workplaces. A few basic alterations can help improve relationships between
associates and even enhance your own career prospects. How to Improve Working Relationships through Feng ShuiFirstly consider the entrance and reception area of your workplace, as this is the first place that both visitors and workers get to see. It should therefore look “inviting”. On entering the reception, there should be no sense of clutter. If visitors need to be greeted, a reception desk near but placed at a slight angle to the door is recommended. This will then invite people to enter the room without blocking their entrance. A desk placed directly opposite the door, for instance, might appear to be barring someone’s entry, as if turning them away before they’ve even arrived! Also remember that both “entrance” and “exit” should be clearly marked, as should the direction that doors open if this might cause confusion.Furniture in the Workplace and Feng ShuiFurther into the building, and if there are lots of angles, sharp edges and corners, these can cause “secret arrows” or negative rays of energy. Secret arrows directed towards either workers and visitors will affect their health and their relationships. These should, therefore, be blocked with plants, screens and paintings. If you work in an office, think about your seating arrangements. You should not, for instance, sit with your back to a window or an open door. Neither do you want to face others in the room directly, otherwise this can bring negative or hostile attitudes.Rooms should be kept neat and as free from clutter as possible. The floor area especially, should be left open so people don’t have to watch their feet as they walk.Organising Your Work for Good Feng Shui

When you consider the roots of T’ai Chi, you can see how it is different from all other forms of exercise. Most people do not know this history, however. And, the focus of the martial art has changed over time. The full name is T’ai Chi Ch’uan. Translated from Chinese
to English, this means “supreme ultimate fisted hand.” Most people have dropped the “fist” portion of the name, however, as the focus has moved from martial art to becoming one with all things.T’ai Chi Ch’uan was originally developed to provide an experience of oneness with all things. This wisdom was then applied to a highly disciplined form of martial arts. The movements of T’ai Chi are thought to fill the practitioner with “chi”. This is the Chinese word for life force or energy. A goal of T’ai Chi is to master the mental directing of chi using the positions as guides. This is what makes the exercise of T’ai Chi different from other forms of exercise. There is no other activity that combines the health benefits of the flowing movements and combining the mind and spirit with each other.Anyone in any physical condition can do the forms of T’ai Chi. As long as you can stand up and move your arms and legs, you can do the exercise. Like other forms of exercise each person should do as much as they are physically able. It should not hurt to do T’ai Chi. The longer you keep up the practice, the easier the movements will become. It is also wonderful for stress relief. It is a form of moving meditation. You will be very surprised at how much better you feel after you have started practicing T’ai Chi. It has helped many people get into better physical shape even after having a medical condition such as heart attacks or strokes. Because it is so gentle, it is not hard for someone who has a bit of physical difficulty to perform.
