What are my chances of developing mesothelioma?

Posted in Cancer

I noticed recently that my family has been exposed to vermiculite, a material containing asbestos in my home. During my childhood, my father rebuilt the hotel several times. What is the risk of developing asbestos-related diseases? (I can not find rates of cancer and truthful information to Google search.) Nobody in my family with abnormalities 10 + years after removal.

Risk is generally low. Vermiculite itself is not toxic, but can be contaminated with asbestos. Apparently, when and where the vermiculite comes from determines the risk. Please make sure you don’t smoke. There is really little you can do at this point other than not smoking. If you have any symptoms a chest xray would be a good first step.

    Blessings
