Product Review: Mucinex

Getting a common cold for me is not a major event. The usual runny nose, sneezing, sore throat and mild cough aren’t too disruptive in my life, so when I got a cold recently, I wasn’t too concerned. After about four days, I noticed something
seemed fishy. My chest felt like it was burning, every time I coughed. What started out as a little annoying cough ended up to be a hacking, painful cough that had me worried because I had never experienced anything like it before. I had heard about Mucinex and how it works to relieve chest congestion and break up mucus, but I didn’t think that an over the counter medication could have any real effect in the symptoms that I was experiencing. Before I called the doctor, I wanted to try the Mucinex to see if it would help.I picked up a box of Mucinex at the grocery store. I came home and took the rather large Mucinex pill with lots of water. After about one hour, I noticed that I was coughing a little easier and that the cough was beginning to become more productive. As time went by, the mucus was coming up more and the burning in my chest was, thankfully getting better. The hacking cough was also starting to subside. I was amazed at how well Mucinex worked. I have since learned that you can get Mucinex with or without a prescription. I was honestly concerned that I could be getting pneumonia. My chest burned so bad every time I coughed. I just knew if I didn’t do something about the congestion, it could turn into pneumonia. Mucinex worked so well that it took no effort at all to bring up the mucus. A small little cough was all it took. I took the Mucinex for one more day, a total of two days. The recommended dosage is one or two tablets every 12 hours for adults and children 12 years of age and over. You’re not supposed to take more that 4 tablets in 24 hours. Thankfully, after two days, the chest congestion was almost gone, but more importantly, the burning from it was relieved as well.

Product Review: Imodium Antidiarrheal

While at work at the hospital where I work as a registered nurse, I started to feel a little under the weather. Now there was a lot of stomach bugs going around, but I didn’t think it could get me, not the nurse. I couldn’t get sick because I had patients to take care of. Sure enough,
the horrendous rumbling in my lower abdomen started and then all of a sudden, horrific diarrhea.I immediately checked with one of the doctors who first advised me to take Imodium and then he suggested that I go home. Luckily I was nearing the end of my shift, so I just left a few minutes early. I did have some Imodium on hand at home and I took it immediately when I walked through the door. I tried to drink lots of water with it because I didn’t want to become dehydrated. Dehydration can be a dangerous problem that can sometimes occur in severe diarrhea if you don’t replace your fluids. Loperamide HCL works to slow down the diarrhea and Simethicone works to relieve gas pains, pressure and bloating. I was having a difficult time getting the Imodium out of the foil packing, but eventually I figured it out.I was literally doubled over in pain, The constant running to the bathroom was tiring and I was feeling weaker and weaker. I was afraid I would get dehydrated if the diarrhea didn’t stop. After about an hour, the familiar lower abdominal rumblings slowed, then stopped completely. The Imodium was working! Soon after the rumbling in my abdomen stopped, the gas pain, pressure and cramps subsided. The diarrhea slowed down, but it not was until I took a second does a few hours later that it completely stopped. I still felt very weak and tired, but at least the diarrhea and gas pains went away.

Product Review: Bactrim DS

I recently had a urinary tract infection with all the classic symptoms. Burning and pain upon urination, pain in my bladder, lower back pain, bladder pressure, fever and chills. As a registered nurse and a former urinary tract infection sufferer, I knew right away that this was a classic
urinary tract infection. I called my doctor and he prescribed Bactrim DS for my infection. Bactrim DS is the brand name of this medication. The generic name is sulfamethoxazole/tmp according to the bottle.I picked up the Bactrim DS at the pharmacy and took my first dose as soon as I got home. Now one thing that I’m not too fond of when taking Bactrim DS is their size. They are like horse pills and you have to take them with lots of water. Sometimes when you’re sick, you don’t feel like drinking a whole glass of water with a pill. Especially a big pill like Bactim DS, but let me tell you, it was well worth it. I took the pill and kept drinking as much water as I could to “flush out” the infection. I also drank some cranberry juice that I purchased at the same time I picked up the Bactrim DS and after about an hour, the pain, pressure and burning had subsided. After a few more hours, the symptoms were completely gone. Bactrim DS seemed to work like magic. I could not believe how fast it worked. One adverse reaction I did get was a slight upset stomach. However, I realize that this could have occurred from a number of factors. I don’t want to be so quick as to blame the Bactrim DS. I did drink tons of water and cranberry juice. I also didn’t feel like eating so that didn’t help. It’s better to take medication with food if it’s allowable to prevent stomach upset.

Product Review: Pepto Bismol Original

When I start feeling my stomach rumbling, I knew to reach for Pepto Bismol. Pepto Bismol gets rid of diarrhea and nausea. Thankfully I don’t get diarrhea often, but when I do, I take Pepto Bismol for it’s soothing relief. Not too long ago, we went to a restaurant, and against my better
judgment I had a very spicy meal. Normally spicy food doesn’t bother me at all so I don’t know why it did this time. The food was absolutely delicious, so I think I just over did it. When I got home, I could feel an episode coming on, so I reached for my pink bottle of Pepto Bismol. I took two tablespoons of it and hoped it work soon. Pepto Bismol claims to quell nausea as well. Pepto Bismol, in my opinion is not the most pleasant tasting medication to take, but I suppose it’s better than having diarrhea. After about one hour, my stomach rumbling slowed down a little, but I still didn’t feel 100%. I did feel kind of nauseous before taking the Pepto, but it went away after I took it, so I guess it really does work to relieve nausea as well. The label claims it gives soothing relief for 5 symptoms and they are heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, nausea and diarrhea. If you are going to take Pepto Bismol, make sure you have not taken any aspirin recently because one of the active ingredients in Pepto is an aspirin like substance. There is one negative thing that happens to me on occasion when I take Pepto Bismol. Every once in a while, my tongue turns a darker color from the Pepto. I understand this is due to the other active ingredient, bismuth. My neighbor said her doctor recommended Pepto Bismol for her to take on a trip abroad. He said it has the potential to stave off stomach bacteria. He said she could take it as a prevention measure so she doesn’t get a case of diarrhea. She did take it for a few days, and she came home unscathed by diarrhea.

Review of the Final Issue of Weekly World News Tabloid

Say Goodbye to Batboy and Dr. HorseThe Weekly World News tabloid. You know the one. You try to shade your eyes from looking at it at the grocery store check-out. The infamous black and white tabloid is no more. How sad to see Bat Boy lying in a coffin. He has since been resurrected for a theatrical production at a
local community playhouse, but i digress.I will miss you, Weekly World News tabloid. I will forever be grateful to you for the wealth of priceless information you have provided to me throughout the years. Anyway, who could forget Bat Boy, the half bat, half boy pointy eared creature that got himself in the most precarious situations. Crazy Bat Boy!As a registered nurse, I look to Dr. Horse, aka Lester the Typing Horse for the latest in medical research. I knew I could always count on him for the latest in cutting edge medical research information. Once a sideshow attraction, he is now the nation’s leading wellness expert, this according to the Weekly World News. I’ve learned from Dr. Horse that meat has lots of nutrients in it, and that juicing is a fine addition to a healthy diet. Cutting edge. Who could forget the Pulitzer prize caliber reporting of the Weekly World News article entitled “Fly-Eyed Baby!” I get choked up just thinking about it. Let us not forget the inspirational feel good story entitled “Holy Guacamole: Baby Delivered Inside Avocado!” Again, as an RN and former obstetrical nurse, this was really exciting. I will truly miss this Weekly World News publication. Thankfully, I purchased the final issue of Weekly World News. I will forever treasure this publication and refer to it often. “Me and my deputy were on patrol when two kids suddenly darted from the marsh and ran right in front of our car.” Sheriff Gil Claypool told Weekly World News. “Slim slammed on the brakes, just missing the two Thompson boys! they were scared out of their minds. “The boys said they’d been out collecting frogs when something approached from the saw grass.” What they saw was a half man, half alligator – what they called a “Manigator!” Call the AP! A Manigator is on the loose! Why was this not picked up by the wire?
