Pure Weight Loss Closing 400 Centers

Former L.A. Weight Loss Company Leaving Many Unhappy Customers

Pure Weight Loss, formerly known as L.A. Weight Loss, announced last week that they will be closing over 400 of their weight loss centers. Some locations have already closed and all locations will be closed by January 4, 2008.

In a news article from the Philadelphia Daily News a spokesperson for a Pure Weight Loss Center in the Philadelphia area did not know whether the company was filing for bankruptcy or

 not.

Pure Weight Loss endorsed and sold the new popular weight loss pill, Alli. Alli has received a lot of criticism since it was approved earlier this year by the FDA for over-the-counter use. Alli is a form of the prescription weight loss drug, Orlistat. Some side effects of using Alli include diarrhea, anal leakage and gastrointestinal problems.

Pure Weight Loss released the following statement as their reasons for closing. “Fierce competition from the Internet, the introduction of Alli, the over-the-counter weight loss pill, and other commercial diet programs, combined with a difficult economic environment, have forced us to take this action.”

Pure Weight Loss/L.A. Weight Loss has been under scrutiny for the past few years for some of their sales and marketing tactics. Lawsuits have resulted due to Pure Weight Loss falsely advertising the cost of the program.

Current Pure Weight Loss clients, who posted about the closing on FranchisePick.com, claim that while they were happy with the program they fear they will not be refunded for all of the lites and program and maintenance fees they prepaid. Some comments say that the corporate website has already shut down and phone calls and emails by clients are not being responded to. After reading about the locations closing, I checked the Pure Weight Loss site myself and the only page available is one giving the closing date and contact information.

magic bullet for the desperate? Should the buyer beware? Examine the claims and independent review and decide for yourself.

According to the manufacturer’s Dec. 15 press release, Curvelle has seen a spike in the number of women rushing out to buy this all-natural weight loss supplement designed specifically for women. Early in December, an issue of First, a women’s magazine, gave positive press to Curvelle, which is believed to be responsible for the increase in sales. In First’s article entitled “Breakthrough FAT BLOCKER,” the magazine says it searched the Web, polled women and consulted with doctors to find a natural alternative to Alli, another over-the-counter weight loss drug. Alli was said in the magazine to cause gas and diarrhea if the user ate more than 15 grams of fat in a single meal.

iSatori Technologies makes Curvelle. CEO Stephen Adele says that “Curvelle is different, which is why it’s getting such positive press. It contains only all-natural ingredients that have been shown to help control appetite and burn excess calories for energy, along with quality antioxidants to help you look great and feel healthy and energetic.”

The First article says Curvelle contains a blend of nutrients – red raspberry ketones, elderberry extract, cinnamon and green tea – that combats fat, gets rid of fatigue and increases metabolism. The raspberry ketones reportedly inhibit fat formation, and elderberry extract stimulates fat cells that leads to calming cravings and speeding up metabolism. Cinnamon lowers blood sugar, and green tea is said to target belly fat.

of the risk of death (the complete article is available only for people subscribed to the journal).

Also, It has been estimated that weight loss surgery in the United States has increased 5 times in 5 years, from around 20,000 in 1998 to more than 103,000 in 2003 (According to the American Society for Bariatric Surgery).

Two important scientists, Dr Michael Korenkov, of the Department of Abdominal Surgery, University of Mainz in Germany, and Dr Stefan Sauerland from the Institute for Research in Operative Medicine, University of Witten/Herdecke, also in Germany, have made an analysis of the issues that involve this controversial weight loss treatment.

According to Sauerland a Korenkov there are two kinds of weight loss surgery available today. One of them is called the gastric-restrictive type (because it limits food intake) and the malabsorption type, (it decreases the amount of food absorbed in the digestive tract).

Unfortunately, the effectiveness of any of these surgical procedures has only been measured in terms of the weight reduction and, if this the only measuring rules, they are certainly successful. However, Sauerland and Korenkov point out that today obesity is a more complex issue that involves not only the extra weight but additional key considerations such as metabolic, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and musculoskeletal issues.

Tired of Gossip at Work?

Become a Leader at Work and Tame the Gossip in YouGot some juicy news about your colleague’s mistress or information about your boss’ salary? Keep this personal information to yourself my friend. You are entering the “Gossip Zone.” Instead of spreading these luscious morsels of jealousy, bitterness, and personal information at work,
learn to be a leader and tame the gossip in you. Gossip vs. Rumors. Is there a difference between the two? Gossip is defined as an intimate or sensational fact revealed about a person or situation. This communication usually focuses on unverified half-truths and the salacious interpersonal lives of its subject. This sensational rant almost always begins with a topic that never directly affects the people who are discussing it. A rumor is a testimonial or opinion that may or may not be true. If management is planning layoffs or your boss is planning to add new responsibilities to the team, this type of speculation falls under the rumor umbrella. Rumors should be addressed immediately by management. Gossip, however, should never be tolerated. How do you stop the dangerous small talk and live relatively scandal free in the office?Go cold turkey. Stop participating in harmful water cooler chatting.Until there is a patch created to wean you off office innuendo, you will have to do it the old fashioned way. Isolate yourself from people who frequently participate in idle chatter. Replace the old desire to talk about your peers’ personal business with workplace innovation. There will always be an abundance of news coming from the office grapevine to delight the faithful listeners, it’s human nature. Focus your thoughts on new revenue producing ideas that will help your company’s bottom line and give you the raise you know you deserve. Refrain from immediately converting your coworkers into your new lifestyle.
