Paul Newman has decided to bring his 50 year acting career to an end. “I’m not able to work anymore as an actor at the level I would want to” Newman told ABC’s “Good Morning America.” on Thursday “You start to lose your memory, your confidence,
your invention. So that’s pretty much a closed book for me.”Newman landed his first acting role way back in 1952 as “Sergeant Wilson” on one episode of the television series “Tales of Tomorrow” Although Tales of Tomorrow was most likely forgotten by most of America, Paul Newman was certainly not. Staring in such films as “Cool Hand Luke” and “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” He quickly made a name for himself in Hollywood. He is one of the few actors who has managed to keep a successful and respected film career from the 1950′s till now, making the transition from different generations and remaining popular. His work has been appreciated for its greatness many times as he has received nine Academy Award nominations, of which he won once for “The Color Of Money” in 1986. He was nominated for five BAFTA awards, one Emmy nomination and one Emmy win for “Empire Falls” and a Golden Globe award for directing. Newman also won the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award in 1984.Beyond acting, Newman became interested in auto racing, and from the mid seventies through the early nineties he raced for the “Bob Sharp Racing Team”. He raced mainly Nissan’s during his career, and they even named a Skyline model after him, which they dubbed “The Newman” although most of his races and championships were won while driving Nissan’s Z-series. He eventually co-founded Newman/Haas Racing with Carl Haas 1983.Don’t count Newman down and out just yet though, he plans to focus more time to his organic restaurant in Westport, the Dressing Room, and his “Hole in the Wall Gang” camps for critically ill children. Newman has already raised over $200 million for charities with his own brand of dressings, lemonades, popcorn, pasta sauces, and salsa.

Fallacies in Searle’s Chinese Room Argument
The question of whether or not a machine is capable of intelligent, human-like thought is one that has plagued philosophers and scientists for centuries. Descartes considered the question in 1673 and determined that the sign of intelligence is the ability to understand language, and
indeed today, a machine’s ability to understand language is the standard against which we test its capacity for thought within a machine. Father of modern computer science, Alan Turing, formalized this standard, creating what is now referred to as the Turing Test. The Turing Test involves two humans and a computer. One human questions the other human and the computer, and attempts to distinguish which responses belong to the computer and which belong to the human. If the interrogator is unable to accurately distinguish the computer from the human, then the computer is said to pass the Turing Test. Many people believe that a computer could be built that is capable of passing the Turing Test and thus exhibits thought just as the human mind does. These people are proponents of strong artificial intelligence. American philosopher John Searle attempted, in his 1980 article “Minds, Brains, and Programs,” to prove that a computer running a program does not enable the computer to understand language, and thus no real intentionality is being exhibited through the computer’s ability to manipulate language effectively. At the core of his argument is the thought experiment, known as the Chinese Room. Searle asks us to imagine a computer that behaves as if it understands Chinese, with the ability to take Chinese characters as input and, following a set of rules, output appropriate Chinese characters. This computer performs its task so convincingly that it easily passes the Turing Test, and so supporters of strong artificial intelligence conclude that the computer understands Chinese just as a fluent speaker does.
Broadband Internet Over Power Lines: Is BPL a Profitable Technology for Investors?
Broadband internet over Power Lines came into a lot of Buzz in 1999 when Luke Stewart out of Dallas Texas made his story known to Texas Monthly Magazine. This blurb in Texas Monthly even suggested at the end of the article that investors could
call the company to invest in this apparently highly profitable business. The problem was that this Buzz generated by Luke Stewart was superficial and primarily used to bilk several million dollars from investors who thought they were giving their money to a real inventor and business entrepreneur. Over the years true BPL scientific articles and organizations came out of the wood work and gave unbiased information about the state of the industry and the potential likelihood of this technology seeing the light of day. What the legitimate sources are saying is that the technology is viable but it is too expensive to compete with what is already out there. It would cost about $500 a home to retrofit with the needed connectivity devices to use this technology. Because of the expense it makes much more sense to use this technology in locations such as 3rd world countries that do not yet have broadband infrastructure in place but do have power lines. This would allow the less fortunate to become educated and learn things they would otherwise never be able to do.The way this technology would work is to simply carry data over the existing power line cables and into the electric wall outlet. There would be a modem device on the wall outlet that would receive the data and transmit and receive from the computer. Repeaters would need to be attached next to each transformer on the power lines in order to receive and transmit the signal else it is lost. These repeaters are what would end up making the cost of this technology too expensive to compete with current DSL and Cable internet technologies. DirectTV is currently working hard to test and achieve a competitive version of this technology to compete with Cable TV. The chance of these tests passing the cost criteria is slim. These types of tests have been done for years with no actual profitable implementation taking place.

MonaVie Drink with Acai Versus 180 Blue Drink with Acai
Health and wellness are on the minds of Baby Boomers who experience the daily effects of aging, joint pain, back pain, weight gain, and mental focus, among all else. Younger generations continually look for ways to boost their energy levels to function faster and faster in the
communication overload world they created. This would explain why the “better-for-you” or functional beverage market is a $40 billion industry and expected to grow to almost $54 billion by 2010.
What do consumers choose to drink from a $40 billion functional beverage marketplace? I continually look for healthy drinks because my family has a history of diabetes. In a pre-diabetes stage, I must find drinks that help prevent the advancement of diabetes. When the “energy drinks” exploded onto the market, I enjoyed the sugar-free 180 Orange Citrus Blast energy drink from Anheuser-Busch. Now there is low-calorie energy drink, 180 Blue with Acai. I also learned about MonaVie, an organic fruit beverage with Acai. This is a comparison of the two drinks.
First, what exactly is Acai (pronounced ah-SIGH-ee)?
Acai is a blueberry-sized berry found at the top of a palm tree in the Amazon rainforest of Brazil. Dr. Nicholas Perricone, an anti-aging expert, declared the berry “the world’s number one superfood” on The Oprah Winfrey Show. In a 2006 University of Florida study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, the acai berry destroyed cultured human cancer cells; specifically the berries triggered a self-destruct response in up to 86% of leukemia cells tested.
A History of Popcorn and the Movies
There are certain combinations that seem to be made for each other – peanut butter and jelly, politics and corruption, french fries and ketchup, and of course, my favorite: popcorn and movies. The thought of going to a theater and watching a movie without that barrel of popcorn is almost
unthinkable. Sure, that tub costs as much as dinner for two at a Chinese buffet, but somehow the movie-going experience is incomplete without that tub of buttery, crunchy goodness getting all over your shirt as you munch away in the dark. But how did this tradition get started. To find out, you have to go way back, to a time when it didn’t matter if the person next to you was talking during the movie because there was nothing else in the theater to listen to.Popcorn and the Movies – OriginsAt first theater owners hated popcorn. It made a mess in their theaters. They felt it distracted from the movie experience. At this time, popcorn was sold primarily by street vendors, who would push their popcorn carts around and sell popcorn to people walking down the sidewalks. Movie theaters were attractive places for these street vendors because they could count on crowds of people at regular intervals. Most theater owners considered these street vendors a nuisance. People would get up during a movie to go outside the theater and buy popcorn. But then theater owners began to realize that they could be profiting from popcorn instead of the street vendors. Popcorn Comes InsideIn 1925 Charles Manley, an inventor from Butte, Montana, perfected the first electric popcorn machine. He marketed the machine to movie theater owners, and one of the most successful combinations in culinary history was born.
